JACKSON — A woman was killed and four others were injured in a head-on crash Friday evening, police said.
The collision between a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck and a Chrysler Town & County minivan occurred around 6:40 p.m. near the intersection of South Hope Chapel Road and Ridgeway Boulevard, Jackson police Capt. Steven Laskiewicz said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Laskiewicz said a preliminary investigation shows the pickup truck was heading north on South Hope Chapel Road when the minivan crossed in its path as it made a left turn onto Ridgeway Boulevard.
The front-seat passenger of the minivan was removed from the vehicle by firefighters and flown to an area trauma center where she died, Laskiewicz said. Laskiewicz did not release her age or identity.
The driver of the minivan, a 56-year-old Howell man, also suffered serious injuries and was flown to an area trauma center, Laskiewicz said. A back-seat passenger in the minivan was taken to a hospital by ambulance for moderate injuries.
The pickup truck’s driver, a 31-year-old Manchester man, was seriously injured after he was partially thrown from the truck, Laskiewicz said. He, too, was flown to an area trauma center for treatment. The truck’s passenger, a 14-year-old girl, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a trauma center by ambulance, Laskiewicz said.
There is no indication either the drivers was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Laskiewicz said.
The crash is under investigation by the Jackson Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police asked anyone who witnessed the accident to call Jackson police Officer Brad Reider at 732-928-1111, or Detective Brant Uricks of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027.
