EDISON – The motorcyclist who died Monday in a crash on Interstate 287 in Edison has been identified as a a 48-year-old Toms River man.
New Jersey State Police Lt. Ted Schaffer said Ernest Soper III died at 3:25 p.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
According to Schaffer, Soper was riding a 2016 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy south on I-287 near mile marker 3.6 in Edison when his motorcycle overturned, ejecting him. Soper struck the rear of a Chevrolet.
Police did not know where Soper was coming from or where he was going at the time of the crash.
Around 2:19 p.m., State Police were notified about a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. The highway was shut down. Police administered CPR, but the man died, Schaffer said.
Traffic backups were reported in the area for several hours.
