Tractor trailer crash, debris spill close lanes along Route 17 at Route 4

Submitted by New Jersey Truck Crash Lawyer, Jeffrey Hark

PARAMUS – An overturned tractor trailer and debris spill Wednesday morning on Route 17 north initially led to the closure of the highway in both directions at Route 4, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 6:20 a.m. just north of Fairview Avenue, initially prompting the closure of all lanes on Route 17, according to 511nj.org and Paramus police.

There were 20 to 25 minute delays and the right and center lanes remained closed as of 9:16 a.m. The left lane was open to traffic, according to 511nj.org.

Delays initially reportedly stretched to Interstate 80.

7online.com reported the accident apparently involved at least one other truck and that what appeared to be steel beams had spilled onto the roadway.

Channel 2 News reported that one person was extricated from one of the trucks.

Jim Smith, spokesman for NJ Transit, said NJ Transit bus service was not affected by the accident because they do not operate in the area of the accident.

Bus service contracted to private carriers, however, may have experienced delays up to 45 minutes, Smith said. The bus routes were running on or about schedule around 10:00 a.m., Smith said.

Those bus routes are 709, 752, 755 and 756, Smith said.
