A 26-year-old Pomona man was killed in a fiery crash in New Jersey on Sunday after slamming into the back of a Mack truck, according to the New Jersey State Police.
Frankley Gutierrez was killed when his Toyota Camry struck the rear of the trailer of the truck parked along the right shoulder of Route 287 in Kinnelon, said Trooper Alejandro Goez.
Goez said Gutierrez’s vehicle burst into flames after hitting the back of the truck around 9:46 p.m. No one else was in the car.
The truck driver, Jeffery Reed, 56, of Marathon, Wis., was not injured, Goez added.
The crash closed the right lane of the highway for more than five hours as the State Police’s Fatal Accident and Crime Scene Investigation units processed the scene, state police said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
