WAWAYANDA, N.Y. — A New Jersey teen was killed Wednesday morning when his SUV crashed into a dump truck in New York, police said.
Andrew Van Dyke, 17, of the Highland Lakes section of Vernon, was driving north on Route 93 at about 5:42 a.m. when he failed to yield the right way to a 2005 Peterbilt dump truck heading west on Route 284, the New York State Police said.
Van Dyke was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his Toyota Rav4 in the crash, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dump truck driver, Jeremy Hermida, 28, of Middletown, N.Y., was taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said.
