STANHOPE — An unidentified man was seriously injured when his vehicle hit a telephone pole on Route 206, police said.
The motor vehicle accident occurred about 4:05 p.m. on the northbound side of Route 206 near the intersection with Route 183. The crash knocked down both the utility pole and electrical wires, causing the northbound lanes of both highways to be shut down to all traffic.
Police said the driver was taken to Hackettstown Hospital by the Stanhope-Netcong Ambulance Squad. His name is being withheld until family can be notified.
Route 183 North at Dell Road and Route 206 at the Route 183 merge were closed for several hours after the accident.
Northbound Route 206 in the vicinity of Route 183 remained closed until about 11 p.m.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Stanhope Police were assisted by Byram Police, Mount Olive Police, Sussex County Sheriff ‘s Department, Stanhope Fire Department, Stanhope-Netcong Ambulance Squad and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
