NEWARK, New Jersey — Authorities say a 27-year-old man has been charged after his car crashed into a New Jersey Transit bus in Newark and left the scene.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Andre Price was charged with aggravated assault by auto and leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.

His bail was set at $75,000 and it wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.

NJ Transit says the bus was headed to Bloomfield when the car ran a red light and hit the vehicle.

According to broadcast reports, a passenger in the car was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The bus driver and six passengers also were taken to a hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
