KEARNY – A 64-year-old security guard was fatally struck by a switch truck last week, marking the 11th person to die on Hudson County roads in just two months.
Shazam Amin was crossing Jacobus Avenue — an industrial section just outside of Jersey City — just before 7 a.m. on Oct. 30 when he was struck by the vehicle, authorities said. He was brought to University Hospital where he died later that morning.
A careless driving summons was issued to the operator of the switch truck, but additional information about the driver was not immediately available. A switch truck, slightly smaller than a tractor trailer cab, switches out empty and full cargo containers for tractor trailers.
Amin, of North Bergen, worked for Cambridge Security for four years.
“A reliable, competent, and hard-working officer who was well-respected and appreciated by clients and colleagues alike, Officer Amin will be sincerely missed,” Dave Malefsky, executive vice president of the company said in a statement.
The crash marks the ninth fatal crash in Hudson County since September that have left 11 dead.
