Teen killed, another injured, in Hunterdon County crash with truck

FRANKLIN (Hunterdon) — A 17-year-old boy was killed and his 16-year-old passenger injured when their car was struck by a dump truck Friday morning.

The 2013 Toyota Corolla with the 17-year-old from Hampton Borough behind the wheel pulled onto Route 513 at Race Street and Grandin Road and was struck by the southbound truck just before 9 a.m. The 16-year-old boy, also from Hampton Borough, was flown via medical helicopter to Morristown Medical Center.

“This accident is a terrible tragedy. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the young men involved,” Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III said in a statement.

The teens, whose identities have not been disclosed, attended North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, according to a statement on the school’s Facebook page.  Counselors were at the school on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

“During this very sad time, it is important that we pull together as a community to support one another and keep the student’s family in our thoughts and prayers,” the school’s statement read.

The Franklin Township Police Department, State Police, Quakertown Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Clinton Fire, Clinton First Aid and Rescue Squad, Hunterdon County MICU, Hunterdon County Medical Examiner’s Office, Superior Towing Company and Hunterdon County Garage Services all assisted  with the crash, according to Kearns.
