LITTLE FALLS – A boxcar truck traveling east on Route 46 flipped onto its side this afternoon, snarling traffic for at least two hours.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when the truck rolled over on its side near Andrews Drive. Fuel from the truck’s 50-gallon tank spilled onto the road. A car was also involved in the crash but details about that vehicle and its driver were not available as of this afternoon.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and the truck was towed off of the highway, said Little Falls Police Chief Steven Post. Post said no one was transported from the scene by ambulance and there was no fatality, as a previous breaking news alert had indicated.

The entrance ramp to Route 46 east on McBride and Paterson Avenues was shut to motorists from about 1:50 to 3:30 p.m., when one lane reopened. Traffic remained slow until the highway was fully reopened.

New Jersey Department of Transportation workers were at the scene, cleaning fuel that spilled from the truck. A DOT worker told Passaic Valley Today a Mercedes cut off a boxcar truck near the Valero gas station, but Post noted there are no allegations that the truck was cut off or that it was speeding.
