Pedestrian, vehicle passenger killed in Burlington Co. crash

Two people were killed when a truck struck a jogger, then flipped over along Route 206 in Southampton Twp., Burlington County.

New Jersey State Police Lt. Brian Polite said authorities are investigating the accident that happened just after 2:15 p.m. on southbound U.S. Route 206 at Garden Street.

Police say that a woman was jogging along the shoulder of the roadway when suddenly a driver somehow lost control of his truck, striking the woman and then overturned several times, landing in a ravine.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was killed instantly.

A passenger in the truck was trapped and later pronounced dead.

The vehicle’s driver suffered severe injuries and was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

The names of those involved were not released.

Both sides of Route 206 between Retreat and New roads were shut down for over five hours as the investigation went on.

This comes a little over a week after another pedestrian accident in Southampton Township.

On Tuesday, August 18th, a car hit a group of young people walking on Buddtown Road. 18-year-old Jairisa Galindo and 2-year-old Jyonshiel Martinez were killed.

The street has no lights, no sidewalks and no shoulder. The driver was not charged in connection with the accident.

In addition, Action News has learned that a 13-year-girl struck by a vehicle on August 2nd at New Bold Corner and Smithville has died.

Suffice to say that it has been a very stressful month for the families of those involved in Southampton, as well as for first responders.
