Truck Crashes Tying Up Route 80 Rush Hour

MONTVILLE – Delays continued at 10 a.m. on eastbound Route 80 in Pine Brook after a tractor-trailer truck overturned near mile Exit 48, causing heavy rush-hour delays, according to the New Jersey State Police.

Earlier reports indicated the accident scene had cleared, but a department spokesperson said that at 9:41 a.m., responders were closing the eastbound left lane to lift the truck onto a tower. Responders also had to clean up a fuel spill.

According to the police report, state troopers were alerted to the accident at 5:18 a.m. Investigators determined a white 18-wheel truck with an empty trailer went through the center median and overturned partially in the left eastbound lane. All lanes were closed at 6:01 a.m., but the far right lane was opened a few minutes later.

No injuries were listed in the preliminary report and no emergency medical personnel were called to the scene.

No estimate of a complete road opening was available.

The accident in Pine Brook took place about 35 miles east of another truck crash on eastbound Route 80 near Exit 12 (Route 521-Hope-Blairstown Road). State police reported all eastbound lanes were closed after a milk truck overturned near mile marker 10.6 on eastbound Route 80.

Responders were still on the scene at 10 a.m., according to Lt. Jeffrey Flynn, and traffic delays continued.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
