At least seven people were killed in traffic crashes during what could have been New Jersey’s deadliest weekend of the year.
Just on Sunday night, one person was killed when a vehicle flipped in a N.J. Turnpike crash, according to police.
The fatal accident was discovered after police responded to the southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 8a, police said.
Police had not identified the victims of the Monroe Township crash as of Monday morning.
The nice weekend may have brought more travelers to New Jersey’s roads this weekend. But Sgt. Jeff Flynn of the New Jersey State Police said there’s not always one reason for why more accidents happen on one weekend than another.
“You might have a month where it’s extremely low,” he said. “Sometimes, it’s just by chance.”
The weekend accidents had no connection to each other, and they did not appear to be related to wet weather or heavy traffic.
On Saturday, a bicyclist who once rode 100 miles to raise money for multiple sclerosis awareness was killed in New Jersey Saturday after he was hit by an oncoming car, according to police.
Joseph Harvie, 36, of Monroe Township was riding on Mercer Street southbound near Airport Road in East Windsor Saturday when he was hit, police said in a news release.
